What is the first trip you remember taking and how old were you?

I have been travelling since I was 6 months old but the trip I remember was the trip from Rome to Australia in 1991. It was First Class and my brother and I had our very own table where we were using coloring in books. It remained ingrained in my memoryunfortunately it was my first and last First Class trip!

Have you been anywhere which turned out to be totally different to how you imagined? If so, how?

My first trip to Milan. Everybody, and I mean everybody, was always telling me how bad the weather in Milan is, how the people are so unpleasant, how its just a business center and nothing to see.

So, when I finally decided to go, I was shocked at how much I LOVED Milan! I fell in love with this city and I experienced nothing of what I was told. I had 10 days of sun (even though it was January!), I met some pretty chilled out people (yes, milanese!) and I found there was so much to do – and no, not just the Duomo or shopping. I loved it so much, it was one of my first ever posts on my blog!

A quote I came across once, To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.and I could not agree more, after this experience. The quote was from Aldous Huxley.

Do you have any funny travel stories?

I was travelling with a friend of mine and I was pretty into her. We met while I was in Australia and we decided to go to Cairns together. She knew that I love traveling and that I am a seasoned’ traveller.

So we are at the airport and there was another 25-30 minutes until we had to start boarding. Anyway, we pass security and I told her we should go get a coffee, as I knew this great place in the airport that made a really good espresso. Well, we start walking and little did I realise it was gonna take 20 minutes to get to that side of the airport! In fact, we get to the coffee place and there was a small line up. Little did we realise, as we sit down with our coffee, that they are calling out our names to board – time had just passed by us and so we did not even get to take our coffee that we start running to the gate.

We board the plane and everybody is looking at us really badly. Quite embarrassed, my friend told me that she would never travel with me again! Not the greatest of impressions, when trying to prove to a girl, you want to impress, you are a seasoned traveller.

Where is your favourite place in the world?

Do you have a bucket list? If so what is on it?

My bucket list is never ending but my top 5 destinations for 2016 are: Sicily, Puglia, Ireland, Scotland and Barcelona.

Convento di San Lorenzo Maggiore Napoli

Can you imagine life without travel?

Does such a life exist? I do not know what it means to stay in a place for more than 4-5 months so I do not know what a life without travel even is!

When did you begin your website Tourist By Chance?

I first bought my domain name in 2014 but I had not taken blogging seriously until January, 2015.

Why do you write (for money/connecting with people/therapeutic/fun)?

Creative release and because Italy has a long way to go, in regards to good websites that offer a one stop shop with great and useful information. In reality, this is what I was hoping to provide. A great website, with good content but that could also be useful to travellers while in Italy!

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

By far my post on Civita di Bagnoregio. Its about a town on the border of Lazio and Umbria, connected to the world by a single bridge and know as a Dying City. Need I say more? Check it out –

  1. Interesting thoughts about Milan! I have heard all those things too, but all the people I’ve ever met from Milan have been lovely!
