Shilpa of Chasing Sunsets

What is your name?

Roomi, Shilpa & Nandini. Yes, three names as there are three of us. Regular girlfriends who promised each other we will meet every year in a new place after we had to leave for different places following our career! But we work under the name ‘Chasing Sunsets’!

Which country do you come from/call home?

India is our country but currently all of us are in three different timezones.

Are you a backpacker/long term traveller/business traveller/live and work abroad?

We are occasional travelers who travel upto 3-4 times a year. Each trip lasts about 1-2 weeks.

How do you fund your travel (savings/work whilst travelling/other)?

Oh! Did I forget to mention? We have full time jobs- corporate slaves. That gives us the money to travel!

Have you had any bad experiences whilst travelling?

Yes, I can never forget this! Someone stole my bag at Madrid airport; my passport, money, phone, my itinerary, hotel address EVERYTHING. The Police did not care and they just gave me the address of the Indian embassy.

The Indian embassy was very helpful though and I got my new passport within two hours! Of course, I had called up my father, crying by then and he called up the Secretary of State and long story short, I got my new passport!

Which is the worst place you’ve been to and why?

Is there a ‘worst’ place? I don’t think so! Yes, there has been a trip that did not turn out the way we imagined it to go but that doesn’t mean that is our ‘worst’ one! We just learnt something new about the place and we learn to see it from the shoes of the people living there! It’s all about perspective, my friends!

Do you have a bucket list? If so what is on it?

Umm! Yes! Just all the cool stuff in the world!

Can you imagine life without travel?

No! Oh no! You just made me imagine it!

Sigh. I just imagined all of us so narrow minded thinking we are the heroes of our own stories with no other view!

If you were not travelling what would you be doing instead?

I have a full time corporate job that pays for my travel! So, If I am not travelling, that is probably because I have no money and that means I will work harder at work!

What is the name of your travel blog and the url?

We work under

What makes your site Chasing Sunsets so unique and why should people read it?

This is a travel & lifestyle blog started by four friends from literally around the world. We started off like any friends in a movie, promising to meet each other every year in a foreign land. Since 2013, we have kept that promise and somewhere along the way, we started writing about our discoveries, our friendship and our common passion to explore.

Three years & counting – we have been featured as India’s top travel bloggers and have worked with multiple tourism boards to make a difference. In this journey, we hope to inspire our readers to jump in and take the first leap of faith to enjoy new things with new people.

Do you have any products or services to offer?

We are professional travel bloggers so here are our services that we have to offer!

1.Travel Product/Service reviews: We go ahead and tell our readers what we think about travel related products and services in the market. If you want us to specifically call out yours, do contact us! We will definitely leave a very honest review.

2. Freelance writer: We write. That is what we do. Our articles & stories have been published in magazines and print medias. If you want us to write for you, that is what we will do. We have also done certain copyrighting and editing works for a few other travel blogs.

3. Travel Influencer for online campaigns: With a good social media presence, we have worked with tourism boards and relevant travel brands to increase the online presence of their campaigns and contests. We have even provided real- time social media updates for conferences & events.

4. Brand Ambassadors: We swear on a couple of things when we travel. Pitch us yours and you will get a loyal fan base in us and our readers. This can be a short term or a long term contract for advertising.

5. Press Trips: A part of ‘experience it and review it’. This has something in it for you and for me. We have worked with tourism boards and hotels/resorts and have given our reviews on what we experienced to our readers. Invite us to experience it.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Our maximum traffic was for the blog regarding safety in South Africa. It is a very relevant topic in the minds of every traveler who has South Africa in their bucket list and we gave them what they were looking for!

What has been your favourite article to write either for your blog or another publication?

Stories of people from other countries; humans are the same everywhere but the way people look at the same situation changes with culture and the lifestyle they are brought up in. We are full of stories of such incidents.

What is your favourite mode of transport? (plane/train/boat/car)

Any mode as long as it provides me a good scenic journey and takes me to the place I want to go without tiring me out!

Do you have any advice or tips for aspiring travellers?

Take the first leap of faith and follow your passion (if that is travel!) We remember being there once and READ THIS, you don’t always have to quit your job to travel or ‘save up enough’. Just keep travel as your priority and it will work out for you!

What has travel taught you?

Travel has given me a whole different outlook in life. Over the course of my journeys both abroad and nearby, I have come to celebrate the journey, the people and the culture. I stop during conversations to think about a different perspective and I seek new things while browsing or reading a book. The more I learn about everything else in the world, the smaller and smaller I become and the world in which I am the hero becomes even smaller.

  1. I love that idea – meeting somewhere different each year – what a great concept! And I love the name – “Chasing sunsets” – very “romance of travel” 🙂

  2. Great post and interview. I can relate to the feeling of having stuff stolen. My husband had his wallet stolen on our honeymoon (of all times, right?) and we were afraid we weren’t going to be able to get home. This was before passports were needed for Mexico and we were able to get a temp copy of his license to get home, but pretty scary. Thanks for sharing
