Today I’m delighted to feature a “crazy Polish girl” who is also a smart investor and traveller. Please meet Marysia Maciocha of My Travel Affairs.
What is your name?
My name is Marysia Maciocha and I’m the Crazy Polish Girl behind My Travel Affairs Blog.
Which country do you come from/call home?
I come from Poland and at the moment there are two places I call home. First is my parents place in Poland and the other Tel Aviv.
Are you a backpacker/long term traveller/business traveller/live and work abroad?
I’m mix between backpacker and luxury traveller. My blog in general is mix between jet setting and off the beaten path adventures.
How do you fund your travel (savings/work whilst travelling/other)?
I have been super lucky and invested my money smartly few years back and live out of the annual dividends, but to be frank I see my blog bringing more and more money each month.
What is the first trip you remember taking and how old were you?
The first trip I actually recall is a trip with my Mum and Sister to the mountains in Poland and Slovakia. I love outdoors! I think I was about 6 years old.
Have you been anywhere, which turned out to be totally different to how you imagined? If so, how?
Not really, I learned not to expect anything from places I visit and embrace the reality as it is.
Have you had any bad experiences whilst travelling?
Not many, as I’m known as The Luckiest Girl in the World but I had a terrible experience in Armenia back in 2013 when the owner of the hotel I have been staying proposed me to have sex with him! Just like that. Take it or live it attitude without realizing how unprofessional and inappropriate it is!
Do you have any funny travel stories?
Uncountable tonnes ha ha ha to mention just a few: almost being arrested on the border with Lebanon and visiting voodoo priest in Benin.
Which is the worst place you’ve been to and why?
I think it must be Egypt. Due to awfully annoying behaviour of Egyptian men. It is quiet sad as I think it is a country I could really enjoy, but I didn’t give Egypt another chance so far and not really rushing to.
Where is your favourite place in the world?
At the moment it is Tel Aviv.
Do you have a bucket list? If so what is on it?
I do have a bucket list and it is a big one. There is everything there from visiting Pakistan through running a marathon to keeping vow of silence at least for a week. And those who know me realize how difficult it will be for me! I’m a total chatterbox!
Can you imagine life without travel?
If you were not travelling what would you be doing instead?
Most probably running a charity foundation or working for some NGO.
What is the name of your travel blog and the url?
My blog is called My Travel Affairs http://mytravelaffairs.com
When did you begin your website?
I started my blog 3.5 years ago. Back in 2011.
Why do you write (for money/connecting with people/therapeutic/fun)?
I started for my family and friends, now it is more for fun and interacting with people. Having a creative outlet is an important factor as well.
What makes your site so unique and why should people read it?
We all like to think that our sites are unique. My site has no special niche, so it is all about unusual destinations and me. The places I visit and my crazy stories!
Do you have any products or services to offer?
I have written a guide about Tel Aviv, which you can buy on Amazon.
What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?
What has been your favourite article to write either for your blog or another publication?
I enjoy writing more personal posts like the ones from #MTAnews series on my blog. Do check them out!
What is your favourite mode of transport? (Plane/train/boat/car)
I used to love flying and I still do when I have a chance to take a helicopter or some small cessna but I grow to hate commercial airlines more and more each year. Train is always the best, but I generally love all kinds of transportation.
Do you have any advice or tips for aspiring travellers?
I do not like to patronize people, as I believe we all have our paths and what works for me may not work for others. So as cliché as it sounds just follow you heart, passions and interests.
What has travel taught you?
Travel taught me many, many things, to be more humble, to respect the Nature. I have been always super tolerant and open minded and as hard as it seems I become even more relaxed and distanced to life!
